Abstract
This publication, which bears the largely autobiographical nature, reflects the author's experience in the field of trade and economic relations of the USSR and Russia with the countries of Latin America (Peru, Costa Rica, Panama) in Soviet and post-Soviet periods. Some specific features and peculiarities of these countries are remarked and the negative and positive consequences of refusal of the state monopoly in foreign trade and foreign economic relations with foreign countries are considered on specific examples.
